What it says
- Why does chilli make you sweat when nothing is hot?
- Because capsaicin fits the same lock as heat. The sensor on your tongue reports a fire.
- Your brain believes it. It sends sweat to cool a burn that isn't there.
- Milk carries the capsaicin away. Water just spreads it.
- A smoke detector cannot tell toast from a house fire. Neither can your tongue.
- How hot do you go?
03). A fire station. A smoke detector on the wall is wired to a bell; the crew doze on their chairs. A plate of chilli comes in: the detector reads it as fire, the bell rings, the crew leap up and hose the plate (sweat). Milk carries the chilli away; water only spreads it. Then a toaster pops and the bell goes again: a detector cannot tell toast from a house fire.
