What it says
- Send your AI a photo of a crowd. Ask how many.
- It reads a picture the way you read a face. One glance.
- It sees a class and says twelve. There are fourteen.
- Make it count out loud. 'Mark each person, number them, then give me the total.'
- A number it writes down is one it has to stand behind. A glance isn't.
- What has yours miscounted for you?
19). A school photograph on a hillside. The teacher (the machine) reads the picture the way you read a face: one glance, "twelve", and there are fourteen children in the row. The fix, by the middle: in the darkroom she takes a red grease pencil to the print, rings each child and numbers them, and the total comes out right. The why: a number it writes down is one it has to stand behind; a glance is not.
