What it says
- Why is the most useful glue in your office the one that failed?
- Because Spencer Silver at 3M tried to make a strong glue and made a weak one that stuck, peeled, and stuck again.
- For years nobody wanted it. Then a colleague, Art Fry, kept losing his bookmark in the choir hymn book.
- Weak glue on a scrap of paper. It stuck to the page and came off clean. The Post-it Note.
- What's on your sticky note right now?
04). A 1968 lab bench: Spencer Silver's beaker, a glue that sticks, peels and sticks again (two blocks pull apart and rejoin). A choir loft: Art Fry's hymn book, a paper bookmark slipping out and fluttering to the floor, again and again. Then his desk: the weak glue brushed on a scrap of yellow paper, pressed to the page, peeled off clean. A wall of yellow notes, a note on a monitor.
